Official Contest Rules

These are the official conditions and terms for the Community Coding Contest.

Contestent Requirements

Community Coding Contest contestents must be 18 years of age or older.

All contestents must be able to provide a valid mailing address. If you provide a mailing address outside the United States, then only those prizes that legally able to be exported will be mailed.

Each contestent may only submit one (1) entry.

By submitting an entry, all contestents agree to be bound to the conditions and terms of the official Community Coding Contest rules.

Contest Duration

The contest will run from July 4, 2010 through Sept. 1, 2010. The contest judging will run from September 2, 2010 through September 16, 2010.

Contest Entry Requirements 

All entries must be submitted by 12AM ET (Eastern Time), Wednesday, September 1, 2010. Entries will not be accepted after this time.

All entries must be original works by the contestent.

All entries must be submitted with full source code, within a ZIP archive.

All entries must can be any kind of application (ie. Web, Desktop, Mobile, etc.)

It is strongly encouraged that all entries be built using any of the following tools:

  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express or any other edition
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008 Express or any other edition

All entries must be licensed with some sort of Open Source license that allows the entry (along with full source code) to be distributed, compiled, and executed by any member of the community wishing to take part in the judging of this contest. All entries must not be commercial software.

Use of Open Source and Free Third-Party components/libraries within contest entry is allows. The use of Paid Third-Party components/libraries is prohibited if the component/library requires purchase in order to compile and/or run the entries source code. The use of any Open Source and/or Third-Party components/libararies must not violate any terms of use or license agreements for such components/libraries.

By submitting an entry, contestents agree to take full responsibility that the entry does not violate any Third-Party license agreements. If entry violates Third-Party license agreements it will be removed from the contest website, and disqualified from the contest.

Microsoft Employees and Active Microsoft MVP's are prohibited from entering the contest.

Contest Judging

The contest will be judged by the community (that's YOU!). Contest judging will begin on September 2, 2010 and continue through September 16, 2010. During this time, any community member will be able to visit the contest website and submit votes for each of the contest entries they think should win.

Each community member ("judge") can only vote once per contest entry, but may vote for as many contest entries as they wish.

After September 16, 2010, the winners will be announced on the contest website as soon as they have been reviewed for adherence to the contest rules by the contest organizers.

Contest Availability

The contest organizers reserve the right to cancel the contest at any time for any reason.

The contest organizers reserve the right to disqualify any contestent or entry at any time for any reason.

The contest organizers reserve the right to change the contest rules at any time.

All contestents are responsible for submitting entries on time.

The contest website may experience downtime during and after the contest, and the contest deadline will not be extended because of any such downtime.

Contest Winners

By accepting prizes, winners agree to hold harmless all organizers of the Community Coding Contest against any and all claims of liability arising out of use of such prizes. Winner assumes all liability for any injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused, from participation in this contest or use/acceptance of any prize.

Winners will be notified via email.

Winners that do not accept thier prize in a timely manner will forfeit the prize.

Winners agree to have their name published on the contest website or in any other medium.

Contest Prizes

The prizes listed on the "Prizes" page are subject to change. The contest organizers reserve the right to substitute prizes in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

Winners agree to accept all prizes AS-IS. The contest organizers and sponsors are not responsible for the damage or loss of prizes during and after shipment.

The contest organizers reserve the right to add/remove prizes during or after the contest.

Prizes cannot be replaced or substituted for money or any other item.

Undeliverable or returned prizes will be forfeited.

Prizes may be shipped through a third-party.

This contest is not sponsored or affiliated with Microsoft in any way.
